Under general supervision, manages flow of materials, parts, and assemblies between sections or departments. Coordinates material needs for manufacturing lines of difficult complexity or with greatest financial impact if errors occur. Initiates and follows established procedures. Makes decisions affecting the financial performance of the company.  Executes strategic action plans. Implement and maintain processes that support Supply Chain department metrics.

 

The Buyer/Planner will receive requisitions and/or request for purchase and/or execute material release against an active supply agreement then enter into the MRP II system.

Record and communicate special instructions to Planning and Manufacturing. Engages in tactical level communication with suppliers concerning opportunities for improvement. Responsible for ensuring that stock levels are maintained at the lowest possible level while achieving the contract specific and agreed service requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Die Master Maintenance – Must be able to assist with the creation and maintaining the Die Master.
  • Aluminum Pricing – LME pricing must be updated monthly.
  • Executes Forecasting – Initiates forecasting and actively reviews trends or changes in demand.
  • Ability to Cover Internal Meetings – will need to be able to cover or conduct internal collaborative meetings.
  • Collaborates with Category Managers – Identifies supplier issues and recommends when dual sourcing is needed. Also keeps updated with pricing to limit PPV.
  • Assist with Capacity Planning – Ability to run reports and make recommendations on inventory stocking levels while communicating needs with the supplier.
  • Cross Train Over Facilities - Ability to plan multiple buildings depending on production line.
  • Actively participates in the development of an executble supply plan as part of the S&OP process.
  • Proper setup of new part numbers – The ability to correctly set up new part numbers and submit to Inventory Control.
  • Quote creation – As new part numbers are created; Quotes are necessary to complete the purchase process.
  • Able to Collaborate with Vendors – Set up and manage weekly calls for suppliers that require extra attention to maintain on time deliveries.
  • Understanding and Planning Manually Purchased items – Certain items will need to be purchased and managed manually without the use of MRP which will require strong excel skills.
  • Maintain PPV – Monitoring confirmations and ensuring purchase orders properly match the current pricing.
  • Investigate and Address Accounting Related Issues – Weekly calls with multiple departments are needed to help resolve issues with receipts of material.
  • Understanding the E&O process – Quarterly preparation of Excess and Obsolescence material will need to be reviewed and recommended for cross functional meetings.
  • Internal cross training – Cross training with other planners to learn multiple production lines to help with coverage when needed.
  • Data Entry – Will be required to transfer data from one document to another.
  • Maintaining Quotes & Pricing – Will be required to ensure that all part quotes and pricing are up to date.
  • Understand Planning Workbooks – Each planner will have a personalized Bucket based on their production lines. Must be able to read and comprehend their buckets.
  • Plan Individual Production Lines – Each planner will be responsible for multiple lines; learning to prioritize stock-outs and maintaining stock levels will be critical.
  • Convert Requisitions to Purchase Orders – Will be responsible for sending system generated Requisitions to each vendor after reviewing their planner workbook.
  • Submit Tech Connects for BOM corrections – If needed Tech Connects will need submitted to help fix demand issues with parts.
  • Expediting & Prioritizing Low Stock Items – In the event of a stock out or low stock status, the buyer planner will need to be able to execute and expedite material to limit the amount of disruption for production line(s).
  • Purchase Order Maintenance – Maintaining and closing PO’s as needed.
  • Review Supplier Delivery Performance - Weekly Supplier Delivery Performance Reports will need to be reviewed and updated by each planner.
  • Daily Tier Walks with Production – Morning Tier Walks will be necessary to ensure collaboration and communication continues.
  • Understanding Blueprints – Needs to understand basic Blueprint reading. Often the planner will need to help other departments identify material.
  • Ability to maintain and modify backhaul schedules for necessary suppliers.
  • Others as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Some supervisory responsibilities may be requested in the absence of a supervisor. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in Business preferred
  • Must demonstrate planning, analytical, organizational skills.
  • Customer service skills a plus.
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in purchasing and/or supply chain.
  • Experience using common PC software, including MS Office, working knowledge of ERP with an understanding of bills of materials and supporting data of the operating system and the understanding and ability to apply the principles of Lean Manufacturing and Kanban systems required.
  • Pref Experience preferred.
