 Why work at MITER?

The Operator is responsible for safe machine start-up with safe and effective machine operation in the plastic extrusion process.  The operator operates an extrusion machine to shape powder and pellets into products, such as window profile extrusion.  Installs dies, mandrels, calibrators, heating blocks/bands, trim tools, extrusion saws, and downstream equipment, according to size and type of product, using hand tools.  Assure and maintains machine feed of powder or pellets and regulates rate of extrusion to prevent overpressure and mushrooming of material between table and die. The operator starts hauler and saw then guides extrusion from extruder to drop table to “string” the line. Adjust temperature, rate, water, air and vacuum as necessary to produce correct shape at the maximum possible rate.  Mechanical adjustments outside of repairs are made to the hauler, saw and other mechanical systems as necessary to assure normal operation.  Six times per shift or more frequently as changes or other conditions dictate, the operator records part dimensional and process data as well as production and scrap information.
