Summary

This position is an excellent opportunity for an individual to leverage their product costing expertise and leadership skills as a Cost Accountant for the Accounting and Finance team, specifically serving two facilities, Anlin Windows & Doors in Clovis, CA, and Western Window Systems in Phoenix, AZ.  
 
This position will be based in Clovis, CA, and travel to Phoenix, AZ, is required. The successful candidate will join a team committed to manufacturing excellence, continuous improvement, and member development and will partner with the location Plant Controllers and operations team to achieve objectives. 
 
The Cost Accountant collects data to determine the costs of business activities such as raw materials purchases, inventory, and labor. The candidate is responsible for product costing, product manufacturing analysis, and inventory valuations, following costing controls and procedures while maintaining the cost accounting system and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on cost and inventory financial analysis at Anlin Windows & Doors in Clovis, CA, and Western Window Systems in Phoenix, AZ.
  • Along with the other members of the Costing team, drive the enhancement of procedures and controls that ensure meaningful and reliable product costs and accurate inventories.
  • Assist in developing cost standards for materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Prepare quarterly excess and obsolete inventory analysis to determine reserve and identify areas to reduce and dispose from inventory.
  • Perform month-end cost and inventory accounting close, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with budget preparation for standard costing by analyzing data from Scrap, PPV, and inventory transactions.
  • Prepare weekly inventory, manufacturing, and purchase price variance reports and create journal entries as needed.
  • Assist with audit requests (internal and external).
  • Record Scrap Receivable entries and ensure Scrap proceeds are posted accurately.
  • Record monthly entries for in-transit material, partial shipments, and damaged material receivable.
  • Research and resolve all general ledger and inventory discrepancies by coordinating with IT, warehouse, and other system owners.
  • Prepare data for the periodic standard costs update.
  • Run reports for sales and material cost moves between divisions.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
  • 3 plus years of experience in cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent Excel skills are required.
  • Extensive experience with other Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint, Access, etc.) is a plus.
  • 3 years plus of experience with an ERP system, Frontier preferred.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-motivation; ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects.

 

LANGUAGE / COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Possess verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills to support liaising with various functional levels.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

  • The usual office environment involves frequent sitting, walking, and standing and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing.
  • Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enables the use of office machinery.
  • Oral and auditory capacity enables interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone.
  • Must be able to inspect inventory in the plants and warehouses visually.
  • Frequent need to be in the plant environment, where noise levels are high. Physically able to lift 40 to 60 lbs.
  • Consistent daily attendance required to monitor inventory accuracy.
  • Work in both air-conditioned office environments and non-air-conditioned plant environments.
  • Must be able to move freely and navigate through the production floor.

 

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Time will be split between the Clovis, CA and Phoenix, AZ locations. Travel to Phoenix, AZ at least once per month will be required. Special activities or projects may require more frequent travel at times.
